The Story
1949 Born Dublin
Education, Sisters of Charity

1968-1972 Trinity College Dublin, BA in Philosophy, History and English Literature
1972-1974   Amsterdam, where I came on clay as a medium of expression in the sculptures of Rosemary Andrews. I worked alongside her in her studio on the Keizersgracht.
1974-1982   Dublin. Shared workspace in the studio of Anthony O’Brien and Jim Galligan. Mentor, Sonja Landweer. I found a deeper understanding of 3d form through dance with Kalichi.
1982-1985   Kyoto. Attracted there by Sodeisha Group. Set up a studio on the edge of Kiyomizu. Took classes with Kyo-yaki master Tousai Sawamura , and was inspired by the geometry in the works of Yasuo Hayashi and the impossible balances in the sculptures of Susumu Arioka.
1985   China - Jingdezhen, Liling, Xian, Dunhuang Caves, Flaming Mountains
1985-1987   Dublin. Set up a studio in Mountjoy Square. I was encouraged by Michael Robinson then curator in the Ulster Museum and Pat Murphy now of OPW Dublin.
1988-

Amsterdam. Galerie Maas under Erik Voorrips, represented my work till his retirement. Since 1999 I’ve been with the Peppercanister Fine Art Gallery in Dublin. I joined the Beeldhouwerscollectief ABK in 1998 which opened up a network of contacts to sculptors and galleries in the Netherlands. The winning of a Westerwald prize in the field of ceramic sculpture brought international attention. The solo show curated in 1993 by Michael Robinson in the Ulster Museum was important in giving my work a place in Ireland. My self portrait is in the National Self Portrait Collection and I was selected for the Artists’ Century 1900-2000 exhibition in the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
